P236 OFFICIAL POSTAL STATIONERY
WITH PRIVATE ADDITIONAL PRINTS

The fifth Hindenburg series of Get to Know Germany appeared in September 1934 and is refered to as P236 in the Michel series. In this series the green tones are replaced by brown images and text. The first set bears the printers number 34-53-1 and consists of 9 cards. Following on from this series, multiple series were released in the same format, all the way up to the final issue 41-183-1. A total of 123 sets of 9, 13 sets of 8 and 1 set of 7 were released for a total of 1218 individual cards (999 different photos).

Most of these cards have the 'Lernt Deutschland Kennen!' heading but there were several local issues bearing 'Besucht das schöne Badnerland' (9 cards), Baden (27 cards) in 1937, 'Besucht den Schwartzwalb!' 9 cards in 1936, 'Besucht das schöne Schlesien' 18 cards in 1939 and 8 cards in 1939, 'Dich ruft das deutsche Meer!' 1 set of 9 in 1937, 'Besucht Thüringen, das grüne Herz Deutschlands' 45 cards in 6 sets and 'Lernt das schöne Sachsen Kennen' on a single set of 9 cards.

The cards are numbered as follows: The first two numbers e.g. '34' or '35' is the year of issue, in this case '1934' or '1935'. The second two numbers e.g. '53' or '54' is the series number, starting from '53' all the way up to '183'. The next number, a single number, either '1' or '2' is the cylinder number used to print the cards, most of these are '1' but there are some series that used two cylinders e.g. '35-55-1' and '35-55-2'. Then finally the 'B' refers to 'Bildpostkarte' or picture postcard, followed by a number from '1' to '8' or '9', indicating the card number in that series.

Therefore the card with the number '35-55-2-B3' is the third card 'B3', in the third series '55', printed on the second cylinder '2' and printed in '1935'.
