BACKGROUND: This was the first of six stamps issued to commemorate the death of Paul von Hindenburg. Six of the 1933 Hindenburg Medallions III stamps were reprinted with black borders as a memorial to Paul von Hindenburg who died on 2nd Aug 1934. In addition to these stamps, two official postcards, P234 and P235 were also issued with black borders.
