HINDENBURG MEMORIAL ISSUE
BACKGROUND: Two postcards were issued in 1934 to commemorate the death of Paul von Hindenburg. The first has a 5Rpf pre-printed stamp (P234) and the second has a darker 6Rpf stamp (P235). P234 exists in two variants: P234a is on light to cream-coloured card and P234b is on darker card.
As well as the official card there were a number of official cards with additional private printing.

The following P234 postcard was sent from BERLIN-CHARLOTTENBURG to PRAGUE in the C.S.R on 12th Oct 1934. The card is over franked by 1 Rpf, as the correct postal rate was 10 Rpf. The special slogan cancel on this example extols the public to support German industry by only buying German goods.FOREIGN USE TO HUNGARY

SPECIAL SLOGAN CANCELS
1. This domestically used P234 postcard was cancelled in BERLIN NW 7 on 8th Nov 1934 and was destined for the town of ERLANGEN. The card has an additional 1 Rpf Hindenburg Medallion self-adhesive stamp for a total of 6 Rpf which was the correct intercity postal rate. There is also a slogan cancel advising people to use Airmail postage.2. The card below was cancelled in STUTTGART on 15th Nov 1934 and was a local delivery (correct postal rate 5 Rpf). The slogan cancellation reads "Luftschutz | 1st nationale Pflicht | Werdet Mitglied im | Reichsluftschutzbund" - 'Air raid protection | 1st national duty | Become a member of | the Reich Air Defense Association'
