LANDESVERBAND SCHWABEN
(8th/16th Jan 1938)

BACKGROUND: This postcard was issued to commemorate the First Swabian Postal Exhibition held in the City of Stuttgart from the 8th to the 16th of Jan 1938, coinciding with "The Day of the Stamp". It exists in four versions, all without a pre-printed stamp. The only difference between the cards being the colour of the text and image, or the colour of the card stock used to print them. The variations are as follows:

1. Reddish-brown text/image on white card stock.
2. Green text/image on white card stock.
3. Reddish-brown text/image on brown card stock.
4. Green text/image on brown card stock.

The cards have an image of a medieval knight with four arrows sticking to his shield. Around him is the inscription "1. SCHWAB POSTWERTZEICHEN AUSSTELLUNG STUTTGART 8.-16.JAN.1938 | SCHIRMMERR: | REICHSSTATTHALTER MURR". Below the image is another inscription "Der wackre Schwabe forcht' sich nit | Landesverband Schwaben des Reichsbundes der Philatelisten" - 'The brave Swabian is not afraid | State Association of Swabia of the Reich Association of Philatelists'.

In addition to these four versions there was at least one other private printing

SONDERSTEMPEL: There was also a special cancel that is inscribed 'STUTTGART | 1. Schwabische | Postwertzeichen | Austellung | 8.-16.1.38 | STADT DER AUSLANDSDEUTSCHE' and was used from the 8th until the 16th Jan 1938.

As well as the postcards above there was also this private version which bears the inscription "Ausstellung der firma Marken-Schneider Reutlingen" - 'Exhibition of the company Marken-Schneider Reutlingen'.
