600th ANNIVERSARY of SCHMÖLLN
PP127-C-43
(9th/17th Jul 1938)

BACKGROUND: There were at least four cards issued to commemorate the 600th Anniversary of Schmölln, three with 6Rpf Hindenburg Medallion pre-printed stamps.

PP127-C-43/01: features the brewery
PP127-C-43/02: 4 views of the city of Schmölln
PP127-C-43/03: market square and church tower.

In addition PP127-C-43/03 was available without a pre-printed stamp (the others may also have been available without the pre-printed stamp).

A KUNSTERKARTE by Von Rudolf Paulik was also published to commemorate the anniversary.

SONDERSTEMPEL #1: There was a special cancellation inscribed "SCHMÖLLN (THÜR) | 9.-17. Juli 1938 | 600 Jahrfeier-Briefmarkenschau". The image of the cancel below-left shows that partcular postcard was postally used on 1st Apr 1938, so the special cancel was available at least 3 months before the event took place.

SONDERSTEMPEL #2: The second special cancel shown above on the right was also available during the dates of the anniversary and is inscribed "SCHMÖLLN (THÜR) | Reichsbund d. Philatelisten | Landesverb. Sachsen 2. | Briefmarkenschau v.10.-17.Juli 1938"

In addition to the printed-to-private-order postcards above there was also a full-colour private printing that is in portrait format and features an artist's impression of the Schmölln City Hall building and is inscribed "Schmölln i.Thür. | 600 Jahre Stadt" and "Am Rathaus"
