DIE "ALTE GARDE" IN DER WESTMARK - KOBLENZ
(21st/24th Jun 1938)

BACKGROUND: This card is titled "die "Alte Garde" in der Westmark vom 21.-24.Juni 1938" - 'the "Old Guard" in Westmark from June 21-24, 1938'. There is additional text which reads "Nationalblatt | Gauzeitung Koblenz-Trier" - 'National Gazette | Gau newspaper Koblenz-Trier'

The images on the postcard are both scenes from the city of Koblenz, the upper view is of the monument of William I, first German Emperor, erected in 1897 in appreciation for his role in the unification of Germany and the lower image shows the location of the city on the banks of the River Rhine and River Moselle. The headland where the two rivers meet is known as the "Deutsches Eck" or 'German Corner' - hence the inscription "KOBLENZ DIE STADT AM DEUTSCHEN ECK".
