REICHSGARTENSCHAU, ESSEN

The following postcards commemorate the annual Reich's Garden Show held in ESSEN in 1938.

SONDERSTEMPEL: There was a special cancel and a slogan cancel used for the 1938 Reichsgartenschau in ESSEN. The slogan cancel is a rectangular stamp inscribed "ESSEN | April-Okt | Reichs- | Gartenschau" and has a flower on the righthand side.

The special cancel is a circular handstamp inscribed "ESSEN | Millionenfache Blütenpracht | Reichsgartenschau 1938" - 'ESSEN | Millions of flowers | Reichs Garden Show 1938'. There are two versions of this handstamp, with either a counter 'a' or counter 'b' mark. This cancel was available from 23rd Apr until 12th Oct 1938.

This first card is part of a set of cards published by Verlag Pietzsch u. Co. the card is numbered 154. This example has the counter 'a' version of the special cancel used to commemorate the show.




The second card was also published by Verlag Pietzsch u. Co. but appears to be from an alternative set, this card is number 30.
