OFFICIAL POSTCARD
5th ANNIVERSARY of POWER
VALIDITY: 28th Jan 1938 until 31st Dec 1939, although examples of this card can be found with a cancellation date of 27th Jan 1938.
BACKGROUND: Issued on 28th Jan 1938. This postcard was issued to commemorate the 5th Anniversary of the Nazi Party being in Government (Hitler became Chancellor on 30th Jan 1933). As a symbol of the victory of the National Socialist movement, the stamp image shows a young German carrying the light of truth and the laurel of honor through the Brandenburg Gate into the capital of the Reich. Proceeds from the surcharge went to the Reich's Culture Fund.
SPECIAL CANCEL: A special cancellation inscribed "Zum 30. Januar" was used in seven towns and cities
As well as the official card there were several official cards with additional private printing.

1. This example of a foreign destination is a P267 card sent from KASSEL on 30th Jan 1938 to SUMATRA in the Dutch Indies (now Indonesia).
