COMMERCIAL POSTCARD
OSLO - NORWAY

The following three commercial postcards were sent to the firm of Fred Olsen and Co., in OSLO, occupied NORWAY.

1. This first card has a meter cancel commemorating the 100th Anniversary of Sauber Gebr a Hamburg based shipping and coal company founded on 6th Jul 1839, by brothers Johann and Carl Sauber. The company owned and operated four steamers at the beginning of the war: Emma Sauber, Robert Sauber, Herman Sauber and Emily Sauber, all of which survived the war, but were confiscated by the Allies in 1945. As heating oil replaced coal, the company's fortunes declined, and it finally went bankrupt in the early 1960's.
