MICHEL 701
11th NÜRNBERG REICHSPARTEITAG
(NAZI PARTY RALLY)
6Rpf + 19Rpf

BACKGROUND: This stamp was issued on the 25th of Aug along with an official postcard, both of which were to commemorate the 11th Nürnberg Rally. The stamp is a re-issue of the stamp used to commemorate Labour Day from Apr 1939. The design is derived from a photograph of Adolf Hitler taken by his official photographer Heinrich Hoffmann. The stamp differs from the earlier Labour Day stamp in that it now has an additional inscription "Reichsparteitag 1939" which is not found on the earlier stamp.

The rally was planned to take place from 2nd to 11th Sep 1939, however the German invasion of Poland on the 1st of Sep caused the rally to be cancelled. Due to the cancellation no special handstamp was used for this event. Ironically this rally was going to be named the "Rally of Peace".
