100th BIRTHDAY of FERDINAND von ZEPPELIN

BACKGROUND: Two commemorative Airmail stamps were issued on 5th Jul 1938 to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the birth of Ferdinand Graf Zeppelin. The stamps were designed by von Axster-HeĆ¼dtlass and this one features the gondola of L.Z.129 the "Hindenburg" on its maiden flight on 4th Mar 1936 ('The Hindenburg' Airship famously caught fire and was destroyed whilst mooring on arrival in Lakehurst, New Jersey on 6th May 1937).
