BACKGROUND: The last of the eight special issue Olympic stamps features the Equestrian Jumping events. There were two events: In the Individual Mixed event Germany's Kurt Hasse won the gold (he also won gold in the team evemt). Henry Rang of Romania took the silver and Josef von Platthy from Hungary placed third for the bronze medal.

Germany also came away with the gold in the mixed team event with the Netherlands taking silver and Portugal the bronze.

Kurt Hasse, Germany's two time gold medalist, was killed in action on the Eastern Front on 9th Jan 1944.
