BACKGROUND: Two identical stamps (except the colour and value) were designed by H. Raebiger to commemorate the 12th Anniversary of the failed 1923 Munich Putsch. The design shows an SA (Sturm Abteilung) member standing in front of the Feldhernhalle, holding aloft the "blood flag" that became synonymous with the putsch where the Nazi's attempted to gain control of the Bavarian Government by force. There were two variants, type 'x' with vertically ribbed gum and type 'y' with horizontal ribbed gum.
