MICHEL 474
GERMAN AID FOR THE NEEDY
(CASTLES and PALACES)
The annual stamp issue to raise funds for German charities in 1932 saw the release of a set of five stamps all depicting well-known German castles. The 4Rpf stamp features an image of Wartburg Castle which was built during the middle ages and stands overlooking the town of Eisenach in Thuringia. The castle is famous as being the site of where Martin Luther translated the New Testament into German.
