RHENISH STAMP EXHIBITION
(20th/22nd Jun 1936)

BACKGROUND: Published to commemorate the Rhenish stamp exhibition, held in Düsseldorf from 20th to 22nd Jun 1936. There were four different cards released at the exhibition, each one with a different image on the front and a different combination of value stamps on the reverse.

PP122-C-27 has a 3Rpf pre-printed Hindenburg Medallion Stamp.

PP126-C-12 has a 5Rpf pre-printed Hindenburg Medallion stamp.

PP127-C-19 has a 6Rpf pre-printed Hindenburg Medallion stamp.

PP140-C-1 has a 3Rpf pre-printed Hindenburg Medallion as well as a 10Pf Luftpost stamp.

SPECIAL CANCEL: There was a special cancel available at the exhibition that is inscribed "DÜSSELDORF | Rheinische Briefmarken- | Ausstellung | 1936" and features a person performing a cartwheel. The cards below from my collection all feature this special cancellation.

3rpf HINDENBURG MEDALLION

The first card, PP122-C-27, is inscribed "Freudiger Empfang der Ausstellundsgäste in Düsseldorf." - 'A joyful reception of the exhibiting guests in Düsseldorf.' and has a 3Rpf Hindenburg Medallion pre-printed stamp.

5Rpf HINDENBURG MEDALLION

The second card, PP126-C-12, is inscribed "Die "Schirmherrin" der Spanienspezialisten trift vor dem Ausstellungspalast ein." - 'The "patroness "of the Spanish specialists arrives in front of the exhibition palace.' and has a 5Rpf Hindenburg Medallion pre-printed stamp.

6Rpf HINDENBURG MEDALLION

The third card, PP127-C-19, is inscribed "Der Ausstellungstempel. Die Freude des Markensammlers, der Schrecken der Postbeamten." - 'The exhibition stamp. The joy of the stamp collector, the horror of the postal workers.' and has a 6Rpf Hindenburg Medallion pre-printed stamp.

10Rpf LUFTPOST STAMP

The fourth and final card, PP140-C-1, is inscribed "Herzliche Luftpostgrüβe von der Briefmarkenausstellung Düsseldorf 1936" - 'Warm airmail greetings from the 1936 stamp exhibition in Düsseldorf.' and has a 3Rpf Hindenburg Medallion as well as a 10Rpf Luftpost pre-printed stamp.
