3rd MÜNSTER STAMP EXHIBITION
(16th/18th Oct 1936)

BACKGROUND: Commemorating the 3rd Munster Postage Stamp Exhibition held from 16th to 18th Oct 1936. There were two cards with pre-printed stamps, one with a 5Rpf Hindenburg Medallion (PP126-C-14) and the other with a 5Rpf Luftpost Airmail stamp (PP142-C-6). In addition there were two other postcards that did not have a pre-printed stamp.

SPECIAL CANCEL: There was a special cancel used at the exhibition and it can be seen on the cards below. The inscription reads "MÜNSTER (WESTF) 2 | 3. Briefmarken Ausstellung", and the image is a partial view of Münster Town Hall. This cancel was available from 16th until 19th Oct 1936 and was the only special cancel used in Münster between Mar 1935 and Mar 1938.

5Rpf HINDENBURG MEDALLION

PP126-C-14 has a 5Rpf pre-printed Hindenburg Medallion Stamp. This example was favour cancelled twice with the special cancel used at the exhibition.

PP126-C-6 WITHOUT A PRE-PRINTED STAMP

This card has the same design as PP142-C-6 above with the exception that it does not have a pre-printed stamp. This example has a self-adhesive 3Rpf Hindenburg Medallion stamp and was favour cancelled with the special cancellation.

5Rpf LUFTPOST

PP142-C-6 has a 5Rpf Luftpost pre-printed Stamp. This example was posted locally to an address in Münster and also has the special exhibition cancellation.

PP126-C-6 WITHOUT A PRE-PRINTED STAMP

This card has the same design as PP142-C-6 above with the exception that it does not have a pre-printed stamp. This example was favour cancelled with the special show cancellation and has a self-adhesive 3Rpf Hindenburg Medallion stamp.

DAS SCHÖNE MÜNSTER

This second set bears the title "Das Schöne Münster" or 'The Beautiful Cathedral'. This first card does not have a pre-printed stamp and is brownish in colour.
