24th GERMAN EASTERN FAIR
(23rd/26th Aug 1936)
BACKGROUND: There were 4 very similar postcards with pre-printed stamps published to commemorate the 1936 German Eastern Fair held in Königsberg from 23rd to 26th Aug 1936. The first two have 6Rpf Hindenburg Medallion stamps (PP127-C-21/01 and -/02). PP127-C-21/02 can be distinguished from -01 by the additional text "3. PHILATELISTTISCHE OSTLANDTAGUNG" just above the image on the left pane.
The other two cards (PP142-C-5/01 and -/02) differ from the first two postcards in that they have 5Rpf Luftpost stamps but are otherwise identical. PP142-C-5/02 also has the additional text whilst PP142-C-5/01 does not.
PP142-C-5/01 also exists without a pre-printed stamp.
SPECIAL CANCEL: The special cancel was inscribed 'KÖNIGSBERG | (PR) | DOK | Deutsche Ostmesse', with an image of the letters DOK forming a sailing boat. The cancel is numbered either "28" or "34" and was used from 22nd to 27th Aug 1936 and again from 15th to 18th Aug 1937. The letters DOK being an abbreviation of "Deutsche Ostmesse Königsberg".
