NATIONAL CRAFTMEN's DAY
(2nd Jun 1936)
The lawyers had 3 days, but the lowly craftsmen only got one day, Tuesday 2nd Jun 1936. The front of the card is inscribed 'Arbeit und Ehre' - 'Work and honour' and the picture shows various craftsmen at work.
DUPLICATE CARDS FROM MY COLLECTION
2. This example from my collection was cancelled in SÖLLHUBEN, Upper Bavaria on Sunday 4th Nov 1936 and was destined for MUNICH, about 70Km South east.
3. The following card was cancelled on Friday 8th May 1936 in ERLANGEN and sent to NÜRNBERG, about 25Km to the South. In addition to the circular ERLANGEN CDS cancel there is a rectangular slogan cancel inscribed "Erlangen | Die fränkische Universitäts= stadt" - 'Erlangen | The Franconian university town' which was used in 1935 and 1936. The ERLANGEN CDS only exists with a "2" counter stamp.
The message to the recipient is rather curious in that it translates as "I ask you not to have one but 2 buckets made for setting up concrete". Curious indeed.
4. The next postcard was cancelled in MANNHEIM on Wednesday 24th Jun 1936 and was sent to TAIBACH, about 350Km to the north-east.
5. The following card was cancelled in HERSFELD on Thursday 11th Jun 1936 and was destined for BERLIN-CHARLOTTENBURG, about 400Km to the North-east. This card bears an interesting slogan stamp inscribed "1200 Jahrfeier 1936 | diätkurort Mägen- | Darm-, Leber-, Gallenleiden, | Zuckerkrankheit" - '1200 year celebration 1936 | diet spa gastric | Intestinal, liver, gallbladder diseases, | diabetes'. This special slogan was used in 1935, 1936 and 1937 and only in HERSFELD.
6. Below is another postally used example, this one cancelled in STUTTGART on Friday 5th Jun 1936 and destined for BIETIGHEIM-BISSINGEN about 20 Km north of STUTTGART. This example has a promotional slogan inscribed "Olympische Spiele | Berlin 1:16 August | 1936" used to encourage people to visit the upcoming Olympic Games in Berlin.
