ZITTAU STAMP EXHIBITION
(29th Jun/7th Jul 1935)

BACKGROUND: Zittau is a large town in the district of Görlitz. It is located in the extreme south-east of Saxony in the triangle of Germany , Poland and the Czech Republic.

Two postcards were issued to commemorate the stamp exhibition and Festival Week in Zittau from 29th Jun to 7th Jul 1935. The image inside the 'green ring' (Grünen Ring), is that of the town centre of Zittau and at the front is the Lutheran Church 'Johanniskirche' constructed in 1291. The postcards exist in two variants:

PP122-C-9 with a 3Rpf HIndenburg Medallion Pre-Printed Stamp.
PP127-C-9 with a 6Rpf Hindenburg Medallion pre-printed stamp.

SPECIAL CANCEL: A special rectangular slogan cancel was available from the 29th Jun until 7th Jul 1935 inscribed "Zittau | im grünen Ring | 29.6.-7.7. 1935 | Briefmarkenausstellung" - 'Zittau | in the green ring | 29.6.-7.7. 1935 | Stamp exhibition'. There were two alomost identical versions, each with three "*" along the bottom of the regular Zittau CDS, the difference being in the size and shape of the '*'

3Rpf HINDENBURG MEDALLION

This version of the card features a brown 3Rpf Hindenburg Medallion pre-printed stamp and the word "Postkarte" has been obscured with a bar the same colour as the stamp. This particular example features the special slogan cancel used for the evnt.

PP127-C-9
6Rpf HINDENBURG MEDALLION

The second version of this card features a 6Rpf Hindenburg Medallion stamp and was published by Drud Gebrüder Güttler, Zittau. The card is valued at about US$15 and does not have the word "Postkarte" over printed.
