2nd SAXON SINGER's FESTIVAL
(28th/30th Jun 1935)

This postcard was issued to celebrate the 2nd Saxon Singer's Festival held in Leipzig from 28th to 30th Jun 1935. Once again, what should be a peaceful celebration is given a military touch with the inclusion of an armed German soldier in the image on the bottom right-hand side. The other images feature peaceful scenes of a mother and her baby, a young couple, and a shepherd at work, quite where the soldier comes in is unknown. There doesn't seem to be much of a reference to singers or singing either.

It is possible that this festival is related to the Harvest Festival, a popular event in Germany from 1935 to 1937, which was held near Hamelin, Saxony. This event featured singing and German Military exercises and also had an agricultural aspect, but more research is required to better understand the importance of this event in 1935.
