2nd REICHSBAUERNTAG
(11th/18th Sep 1934)
The second Reichsbauerntag was held in Goslar from 11th to 18th Sep 1934 (and then annually in 1934, 1936 and 1938. In 1937 it was cancelled because of foot and mouth disease, and in 1939 they were cancelled indefinitely due to the outbreak of the Second World War). This event was a harvest festival known for its peasant, provincial feel and consisted of torchlight parades and Nazi Party members taking the oath of allegiance to Hitler and the Nazi Party.
This postcard depicts a peasant farmer with a large swastika flag in the background, indicating the close ties the party wanted to foster between the peasants and the Nazi regime. The emblem in the bottom right-hand bears the inscription "Blut und Boden" - 'Blood and Soil', a popular Nazi Party slogan.
