HEROES OF THE GREAT WAR
(1932)

This postcard was published to commemorate the German heroes of the First World War. Postcards of Hitler's Germany by Roger Bender shows that this card was published in Oct 1933 but the card below was postally used 18 months before that date on 19th Apr 1932.

The text on the upper reverse side translates approximately as:

"The German people keep reminding themselves of the heroes of the great world war, who in the clearest consciousness sacrificed themselves for all of us. They must always call back the fickle and the weak to fulfill their duty, a duty which they themselves believe to the best of their ability and do to the last consequence" - Adolf Hitler

There is another slightly different version which includes an additional inscription indicating that the card costs 10Pf and could likely be a re-issue of the original postcard.
