BACKGROUND: There were two almost identical postcards issued to commemorate the 400th Anniversary of Philipps University in Marburg from 29th to 31st Jul 1927.
PP101-C-5/01: has shorter, wider text (4mm high)
PP101-C-5/02: has taller, narrower text (9mm high).
SPECIAL CANCEL: Inscribed "MARBURG 1 | (LAHN) | 400 JAHRE PHILIPPS-UNIVERSITÄT"

Shorter, Wider Text
With this variant the text on the reverse of the card "VIERHUNDERT JAHRE PHILIPPS-UNIVERSITAET | 1527 MARBUG 1927" is shorter and wider than the text on the /02 card below. The following two examples of a PP101-C-5/01 card are identical except that the one on the left is postally unused, whereas the one on the right-hand side was postally used.

Taller, Narrower Text
With this variant the text on the reverse of the card "VIERHUNDERT JAHRE PHILIPPS-UNIVERSITAET | 1527 MARBUG 1927" is taller and narrower than the text on the /01 card above.

PP101-C-5/02 was re-issued after the war (c 1977), and an example of the re-issued postcard can be seen below. This version of the card lacks a pre-printed stamp, the "FEST-POSTKARTE | 29.-31. JULI 1927" inscription and the publisher's details.
