HANS SACHS NÜRNBERG
(1927)
This miscellaneous postcard pays tribute to German poet, playwright and shoemaker Hans Sachs (1494-1576) of NÜRNBERG. Sachs is also a leading character in Richard Wagner's opera "Die Meistersinger von NÜRNBERG".
Besides an image of Sachs himself, the card also depicts a panoramic view of NÜRNBERG Castle at the top, the Katharinenkirche and master singer's school at the bottom left and finally Hans Sach's house on the bottom right.
Both examples above are postally used, the one on the left being cancelled on the NÜRNBERG to HOF train on 24th Jun 1927 and the example on the right bearing a regular NÜRNBERG CDS cancel dated 27th Jun 1927. Both stamps also have 1926 issue 5Rpf self-adhesive Michel 387 Friedrich Schiller stamps.
