This postcard was published mid-way through the First World War, and its purpose was as a donation card to raise money to help victims of the war.

TAX SURCHARGE
(1st Aug 1916)
This postcard announces the introduction of a 2½ Pfennig tax mid-way through the First World War. The card states that the tax will remain in place until the war's end (11th Nov 1918). The card features Germania pasting over the old 5Pf postal rate with the new 7½Pf postal rate.
