MISCELLANEOUS POSTCARDS
(1923)

line 1923 was a very interesting year in terms of collecting German postal items. The year began fairly quietly but by the end of Oct and the beginning of Nov inflation skyrocketed. As can be seen by the few examples below, posting a card would soar from several Marks to Millions of Marks in less than 6 months.

This is a fascinating area of study as stamps and cards were often worthless only days after being printed, stamps were issued, then immediately overprinted with higher values. There are some truly awesome postal items to collect just before devaluation, and I will add some of those from my collection once I have completed the postage stamp section of this website.

DRESDNER BANK
(5th Nov 1923)

At the height of the ultra-inflation period sending a postcard was insanely expensive. This particular example from the Remscheid branch of the Dresdner Bank, has 500 million Marks postage ... staggering.
