BACKGROUND: Issued on 29th Aug 1942 and printed by the State Printing Works in Vienna, this Mainz designed stamp depicts Peter Henlein the inventor of the "Nürnberg egg" watch. The stamp design followed the Henlein Memorial in Nürnberg and is inscribed "erfinder der taschenuhr" - 'The inventor of the pocket watch PETER HENLEIN + 1542'.
