BACKGROUND: This stamp is the first in a series of four Eric Stahl designed stamps that was printed at the State Printing Works in Vienna and was issued on 1st Mar 1941 to celebrate the annual Leipzig Spring Fair. The stamp design features an image of the House of Nations in Leipzig.

The history of the Leipzig fairs dates back to about 1165. In 1937, Leipzig was renamed Reichsmessestadt Leipzig (Imperial Trade Fair City Leipzig) by the Nazis.

There were 6 different special handstamps used between Mar 1st and 7th 1941, as well as two slogan postmarks.
