MICHEL 696
NÜRNBURG RACES
and HITLER'S CULTURE FUND
12Rpf + 8Rpf

BACKGROUND: The following Meerwald stamp is the second of three stamps re-issued on 18th May 1939 to commemorate both the Nürnburg Races and Hitler's Culture Fund. There was also a special postmark used alongside the stamp.

The design on the stamps shows the Auto-Union and Mercedes-Benz race cars from 1934 until 1939 and collectively known as the 'Silver Arrows'. At this time each country had its own colour for its race cars, Germany - silver, Great Britain - British racing green, etc. At least two private postcards were made available at the show that also featured these two racing cars.

See Also Michel 687 which is the same stamp but without the overprinted "Nürburgring=Rennen" - "Nürnburg Race"
