BACKGROUND: The following Meerwald stamp is the first of three stamps issued on 17th Feb 1939 to commemorate the International Automobile and Motorcycle Show held in Berlin. There was also a special postmark used for the duration of the show, from 17th Feb 1939 until 5th Mar 1939.

The design on the stamps shows the first Automobiles produced by Carl Benz (1885) and Gottfried Daimler (1886).
