1. NATIONALE BRIEFMARKEN AUSSTELLUNG
1st NATIONAL STAMP EXHIBITION
(MINISHEET)

BACKGROUND: This is one of four very similar Minisheets Issued in 1937. This particular Minisheet (Michel Block 8) was used to commemorate the 1st National Stamp Exhibition. The inscription below the stamps "WER EIN VOLK RETTEN WILL | KANN NUR HEROISCH DENKEN" translates as "Whoever wants to save a people must think heroically", taken from one of Hitler's speeches

The design is by Prof. Richard Klein and has a swastika watermark that covers the entire reverse side of the Minisheet. The sheet was printed 147mm x 105mm but there are many examples available on the market now that have been trimmed. The stamps, Michel 647are imperforate.

The minisheet was available for 1 RM and was limited to one piece per person after paying the 50Rpf entrance fee. The was a special counter inside the exhibition that took written orders for the minisheet for a fee of 1.50 RM plus postage.

UNRELATED SPECIAL CANCELLATIONS - HITLER's 48th BIRTHDAY

Although not directly related to Hitler's 48th Birthday, Block 8 is commonly found with one of the four special cancellation used on 20th Apr 1937.
