BARLOG POSTCARDS
8700 Series
The following sets of postcards were published by DRIESEN VERLAG and I have titled them series 1400, series 8500 and series 8700. They are popularly know as Barlog postcards after the artist, Ferdinand Barlog who's work is featured in them. The cards depict the humourous side of the life of a new recruit in the German army. The earliest example in my collection is a 8700 cancelled on 15th Aug 1939.

No. 8710
The cartoon on this card shows two German soldier wringing the water out of their laundry. This is the same design as 1469. The postally used example below was destined for HEIDELBERG and was a FELDPOST usage on 5th Jun 1941.

This card features two foxes sparing. This card has the same design as 1488.


No. 8712
The cartoon on this card shows German soldiers having a meal in the army canteen. The title reads "And wenn alln knöpfe nongplatzen, ich gehe kapitülieren". - 'And if all the buttons pop I will surrender'. This is the same design as 1476.

I dreamed of You
This card features a soldier sitting up in bad dreaming if delicious food, sausages, cakes and cigars. This card has the same design as 1489.

The design on this card shows a German soldier holding a soup dish wating for the chef to dish out his food in the army canteen. The text reads "And had ich noch solch swollen Morgun, Liebesgaben kann ich inumir aurtrogen!" - 'And if I still have such sweet mornings, I can offer gifts of love in abundance!". This card has the same design as 1481.


No. 8716
The text on this card reads "Herzlichen Gruβ vom Übungsplatz, ich habe jetzt andern Schatz!" - 'Warm greetings from the training ground. I have another treasure now'.The postally used example below was cancelled with one of the 78 "Lager Stempel", (day stamps) used at various military training facilities throughout Germany. This one is a From 19 cancellation, counter 'b', used in HAMMELBURG LAGER on 30th Oct 1944. Counters 'a', 'b' and 'c' were used. The cartoon on this card has a recruit lying in bed with his rifle as if standing to attention. The text on this card reads "Herzlichen Gruβ vom Übungsplatz, ich habe jetzt andern Schatz!" - 'Warm greetings from the training ground. I have another treasure now'. The design is the same as 1490



No. 8718
The cartoon on this card shows a German soldier holding his rifle out in front of himself as if practising parade duty. The inscription reads "Bräutchen, mein Bräutchen, wie lieb ich dich!" - 'Bride, my bride, how I love you!'. This is the same design as 1479.



No. 8719
The caption on this card reads "Wollen Sie ein Brustbild, oder gouza Figur?" Gauze Figur bitte. Alle sollen sehen, daβ aus mir ein ganzer Kerl geworden ist?" - 'Do you want a bust, or a full-figure? A full-figure, please. Everyone should see that I've become a real man?'.This particular example was cancelled in VILLACH on 9th Jun 1942.
