BARLOG POSTCARDS
1400 Series
The following sets of postcards were published by DRIESEN VERLAG and I have titled them series 1400, series 8500 and series 8700. They are popularly know as Barlog postcards after the artist, Ferdinand Barlog who's work is featured in them. The cards depict the humourous side of the life of a new recruit in the German army. The earliest example in my collection is a 8700 cancelled on 15th Aug 1939.

No. 1480
This card translations as "Ob Schütze oder Flieger, Der Zapfenstreich bleibt Sieger", - 'Whether rifleman or pilot, the tatoo (call to arms) remains the winner'. This card has the same design as 8705.

The design on this card shows a German soldier holding a soup dish wating for the chef to dish out his food in the army canteen. The text reads "And had ich noch solch swollen Morgun, Liebesgaben kann ich inumir aurtrogen!" - 'And if I still have such sweet mornings, I can offer gifts of love in abundance!". This card has the same design as 8715.

This card shows a German soldier transistioning in 3 stages from an overweight recruit to a fit soldier. This card has the same design as 8708.

The image on this card is a German soldier's head floating above a pool of sweat with the inscription "Lieber Freund! Anbei eine Ansicht unseres. Truppenübungsplatzes. Der sen ist ein künstlicher. gebil. det aus Mannerschweiβ!". - 'Dear Friend! Enclosed is a view of our military training area. The sand is artificial, formed from men's sweat'.The following example was cancelled in MÜNSINGEN (WÜRTT) on 8th May 1938.

This card features two foxes sparing. This card has the same design as 8711.


No. 1489
I Dreamed of You
This card features a soldier sitting up in bad dreaming if delicious food, sausages, cakes and cigars. This card has the same design as 8713.
