TAG DER WEHRMACHT
ARMED FORCES DAY
(Apr 1943)
BACKGROUND: There were a number of postcards issued to commemorate Armed Forces Day in Apr 1943. Considering the Battle of Stalingrad had just resulted in the destruction of the German 6th Army only two months earlier, this must have been a sobbering celebration. With an estimated 2 million soldiers and civilians on all sides either killed, injured or captured, this was one of the most significant battles of the war and the beginning of the end for the Axis forces.
