TAG DER BRIEFMARKE - LEOBEN
THE DAY OF THE STAMP - LEOBEN
(11th Jan 1942)
BACKGROUND: This postcard commemorates the Leoben Stamp show held in that town from 10th to 12th Jan 1942, which coincided with the official UPU Day of the Stamp celebration.
SPECIAL CANCEL: As in previous years a generic special handstamp was used throughout Germany, and Loeben did have one inscribed with its name (similar to the one on the example below).
Leoben is a small city in central Austria and the drawing on the commemorative card depicts the city during the winter. Below the image is the inscription "WERBESCHAU LEOBEN 10.-12.1.1942 Tag der Briefmarke" - 'ADVERTISING SHOW LEOBEN 10.-12.1.1942 Stamp Day'.
The commemorative card cost 20Rpf and was produced by the K.d.F (Kraft durch Freude') organisation.
The example below has a series of unrelated stamps applied that were more than what was required to obtain the special handstamp.
