MICHEL P239/02
OFFICIAL POSTCARD
STAMP DAY
VALIDITY: 7th Jan 1939 until the end of the war.
BACKGROUND: These two postcards, P239/01 and P239/02, were sponsored by the German Philatelist's Association. They were only available from two mobile post offices in Berlin, as well as by direct written orders to the German Philatelist's sales office, also in Berlin. They were only available on 7th and 8th Jan 1939.
They were published to commemorate the Day of the Stamp and feature a figure of Mercury (the messenger) on the left-hand side. The cards sold for 20 Rpf each. There was also a special postmark used in 28 different cities. Both cards feature a 3 Rpf Hindenburg Medallion pre-printed stamp.
SPECIAL CANCEL: There were multiple special cancels used to commemorate 'The Day of the Stamp' in 1939.
As well as the official card there are several official cards with additional private printing.
