OFFICIAL POSTCARD
THE DAY OF THE STAMP
VALIDITY: 7th Jan 1939 until the end of the war.
BACKGROUND: These two postcards, P239/01 and P239/02, were sponsored by the German Philatelist's Association. They were only available from two mobile post offices in Berlin, as well as by direct written orders to the German Philatelist's sales office, also in Berlin. They were only available on 7th and 8th Jan 1939.
They were published to commemorate the Day of the Stamp and feature a figure of Mercury (the messenger) on the left-hand side. The cards sold for 20 Rpf each. There was also a special postmark used in 28 different cities. Both cards feature a 3 Rpf Hindenburg Medallion pre-printed stamp.
SPECIAL CANCEL: There were multiple special cancels used to commemorate 'The Day of the Stamp' in 1939.
As well as the official card there are several official cards with additional private printing.

1. The postcard below was favour cancelled with the 1939 special handstamp used to commemorate 'The Day of the Stamp' in FRANKFURT (MAIN) on 8th Jan 1939.2. This card was favour cancelled in WIEN (Vienna).
3. The next postcards was cancelled in WIEN with that city's version of the 1939 'Tag der Briefmarke' cancellation.
4. Below is another card cancelled with one of the 1939 'Day of the Stamp' special handstamps, this one only used in CHEMNITZ.
5. Cancelled at the BERLIN SO16 post office the card below features the special 'Day of the Stamp' cancel used on 8th Jan 1939.
6. The following example was cancelled with the Tag der Briefmarke handstamp used in MAINZ on 08.01.1939
