MICHEL BLOCK 9

(MINISHEET)

BACKGROUND: Minisheet Block 9 was issued on 10th Jun 1937 and like the two previous Minisheets Block 7 and Block 8, it has a swastika watermark that covers the entire reverse side of the sheet. This Minisheet differs from the earlier design in that it has an additional inscription "25 Rpf | einschlieβlich | kulturspende" - '25 Rpf | including | culture donation', in green text, to both the left and right of the four stamps.

The sheet cost 1 RM with 24Rpf covering the cost of the stamps and the remainig 76Rpf being a donation to the culture fund.

Unlike the two previous sheets this one was used at several events before 15th Jun when it was available from all post offices:

1. The Kraft Durch Freude Congress - Hamburg 10th to 13th Jun 1937
2. Conference for War wounded (Reichsarbeitstagung der Kriegopferversorung) - Northeim 10th to 15th Jun 1937
3. The re-opening of the Herrenhäuser Gardens - Hannover 13th Jun 1937.

SPECIAL CANCEL: A special handstamp was used in HAMBURG from 10th to 13th Jun 1937.

UNRELATED SPECIAL CANCELLATIONS

Although issued on 10th Jun 1937 this minisheet was valid for use until 31st Dec 1938. Therefore it can be found with many different special cancellations as well as regular CDS stamps.
