INTRODUCTION:
This section is devoted to general covers, package labels, envelopes and miscellaneous postal items used during the Third Reich period.
TAG DER BRIEFMARKE / WINTERHILFSWERK
THE DAY OF THE STAMP / WINTER RELIEF
(10th Jan 1937)
The following cover features the 3Rpf and 5Rpf stamps from the 1936 stamp issue, Michel 617 to 620, which commemorated the
6th International Municipal Congress held jointly in BERLIN and MUNICH. The
special handstamps are unrelated and were used to mark the 1937 Day of the Stamp.
The next cover also features Winter Relief Fund stamps, this time a block of four
Michel 634 stamps from the 1936
modern buildings issue. The
special handstamp was one used in STUTTGART to mark the 1937 Day of the Stamp.
HITLER'S BIRTHDAY
(20th Apr 1937)
The first cover below features the complete
Michel Block 7 minisheet that was issued to commemorate Hitler's 48th Birthday on 20th Apr 1937. This example also has one of four available
special handstamps, this one used in MUNICH, to mark the event.
This second example also has the complete
Michel Block 7 minisheet, but this time with the
special handstamp used in BERCHTESGADEN
Below is yet another cover with the
Michel Block 7 minisheet but now with a regular CDS cancellation from KIRCHHAIN, but also on his birthday.
WIESBADEN MAY WEEK
(2nd/29th May 1937)
The next cover bears a single 1937 issue
Michel 643 stamp, one of a
three part issue released to commemorate the work of the Air Defence League. The stamp has been cancelled with a
slogan cancel used to advertise May Week in the town of WIESBADEN.
AIRMAIL/SHIP MAIL
HAMBURG to BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA
(25th May 1937)
The first Airmail cover below was sent from HAMBURG to BUESNOS AIRES in ARGENTINA on 25th May 1937
NECKAR to NEW YORK
(8th May 1937)
The following Airmail cover was sent by a combination of Airmail and ship. Posted in ESSLINGEN (NECKAR) on 8th May 1937 it was flown to Cologne. From Cologne it was sent aboard the steamer "Europa" to the Lennox Hill Hospital in New York. A quick Google search shows that the hospital is still very much in operation.
ULM to SANTIAGO, CHILE
(20th Nov 1937)
The next Airmail cover was sent from ULM (Donau) to SANTIAGO in CHILE on 20th Nov 1937
REICHSPARTEITAG
(Sep 1937)
The next cover was cancelled on 31st Mar 1937 with a roller slogan cancel used to advertise the annual
Nazi Party Rally in NÜRNBERG which ran from 6th to 13th Sep 1937. Therefore this particular roller was in use a full 5 months before the rally took place. This cover is a little more interesting as it was sent overseas to BERN in SWITZERLAND rather than being a local delivery.
WINTERHILFSWERK
WINTER RELIEF
The Winter Relief cover seen below is a philatelic creation that features all nine of the 1936 issue
Michel 634 to 642, modern buildings commemorative set released to raise funds for the charity. This example was cancelled in OSNABRUCK on 3rd Jun 1937.
COVER - LEIPZIG to KOLN
(29th Nov 1937)
This rather plain cover features two 1933 issue Hindenburg Medallion 1Rpf stamps and two 1934 issue 5Rpf airmail stamps and was sent from LEIPZIG to COLOGNE on 29th Nov 1937. The vignette (poster stamp or Cinderella stamp) on the reverse side was printed to commemorate the 1937 Brown Ribbon Of Germany horse race, held just outside of MUNICH on 1st Aug 1937.
