BACKGROUND: These cards are only found used. They were all posted on 30th Jun 1923, before the postal rate increase on the 1st Jul. PP73-A-2 cards with cancellation dates of 1st Jul 1923 were actually posted on the 30th Jun and were no longer valid after that date (valid from 1st Mar until 30th Jun 1923). These cards were permitted at the postcard rate so long as they had 5 words or less. The cards departing from Bremen (/08 to /10) were properly printed as airmail cards and come with an additional self-adhesive 25 Mark stamp.
All cards have the destination address in a typewriter font, which looks like it was printed.
The primary use of these cards was philatellic and examples usually contain the address of a known airmail collector, and they usually have red airmail confirmation stamps.
SPECIAL CANCEL: A sonderstempel was used in BERLIN.
