ANNIVERSARY OF THE KYFFHÄUSER MONUMENT

BACKGROUND: This postcard was published to commemorate the anniversary of the Kyffhäuser Monument (also known as the Barbarossa Monument). The monument is located in the Kyffhäuser Mountains in Thurungia, and stands at an elevation of 420 metres.The monument itself is 81 metres tall.
The postcard features Frederick I, the Holy Roman Emperor sitting in Kyffhäuser Castle. The monument is shown in the background on top of a hill. According to legend when the ravens cease to fly around the mountain he will awake and restore Germany to its ancient greatness.
