BACKGROUND: This stamp was the first in a series of 4 stamps issued on 2nd Mar 1944 to commemorate the work of the Winterhilfswerk, now in its 10th year. The von Axster-Heüdtlass designs were printed photogravure by the Vienna State Printing Works and were valid for use until the end of the war.
VALIDITY: 2nd Mar 1944 until May 1945
