BACKGROUND: This stamp was the first in a series of 3 stamps produced at the State Printing Works in Vienna to commemorate 25 years of the German Airmail service. This stamp was designed by Erich Meerwald but the remaining two stamps (Michel 867 and Michel 868) were designed by E.R. Vogenaur, hence the lack of continuity between the designs.
