BACKGROUND: Issued on 15th Sep 1939, this series of 12 Axster-Heudtlass designed stamps was published to acknowledge the important role played by the German Postal Service employees and the surcharge on these stamps was intended for the postal worker’s fund. As can be seen from several of these stamps the colours and shades can vary quite significantly. There was no special handstamp or official postcard issued to accompany these stamps.
