OFFICIAL POSTCARD
THE DAY OF THE STAMP
VALIDITY: 5th Jan 1940 until the end of the war.
Issued on 5th Jan 1940 to commemorate The Day of the Stamp on the 7th of Jan 1940. Sponsored by the Reichs Association of Philatelists and the K.d.F Collectors Group to raise funds for the Winter Relief Fund (WHW). The pre-printed stamp is a 6 Rpf stamp that is not related to any official stamp issues.
The card was designed by artist Erich Meerwald in Berlin Wilmersdorf. The cards were available from 4th Jan 1940 from the collector's counter in Berlin W30 and also at special Stamp Day post offices.
Different special cancellations were available in 14 cities.

1. Locally used in the city of STUTTGART on 7th Jan 1940. This example features the special handstamp used to commemorate the 1940 WHW Day of the Stamp.
