100th ANNIVERSARY of TRAVEL
PP138-C-2
(1st Jul 1939)

BACKGROUND: PP138-C-2 was published on 1st Jul 1939 to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of Travel (by mail coach) from Witten to Castrop (a distance of 13Km or 8 miles, as the crow flies). The front of the card features a stagecoach delivering the mail and the reverse has two pre-printed stamps, a 1Rpf Hindenburg Medallion and a 5Rpf Luftpost stamp.

SPECIAL CANCEL: The special cancel shown on the card below was used every year from around 1928 until 1951, although the design did vary slightly from time-to-time, and this was the only special cancel used in Castrop-Rauxel.
