TAG DER BRIEFMARKE IM GROβ-DEUTSCHEN REICH
THE DAY OF THE STAMP
(7th Jan 1939)

BACKGROUND: This postcard was published to commemorate 'The Day of the Stamp' in 1939. The design follows on from a number of postcards published in 1938 that highlighted the annexation of Austria and The Sudetenland to form a Greater Germany. The top line of text reads "WER EIN VOLK RETTEN WILL KANN NUR HEROISCH DENKEN" - 'WHOEVER WANTS TO SAVE A NATION CAN ONLY THINK HEROICALLY', a common Nazi propaganda phase at the time.

NOTE: POSTCARDS of HITLER'S GERMANY by James Bender shows this card as being issued in Jan 1940 (Vol 3 Page 10), however the example in my collection (below) was cancelled in Jan 1939.
