OSTMARK SUDETENGAU

BACKGROUND: This impressive postcard was published by Verlag Th König of Berlin to commemorate the Ostmark Sudentengau, an area which included newly occupied Austria and the Sudetenland. The image of a Reich's Adler (Empire Eagle) stands above a plinth inscribed with each year from 1933 to 1938, and 'DER 30. JANUAR 1939' a reference to 30th Jan 1933 when Hitler was appointed Chancellor of Germany.
The reverse of the card bears the inscription "Gedenkkarte zum Gründungstag des Dritten Reichs" - 'Commemorative card for the founding day of the Third Reich', another reference to the 30th of Jan 1933.
