LEIPZIG FESTIVAL
PP122-D-5
(13th May 1939)
BACKGROUND: This postcard was issued to commemorate the annual Leipzig Festival. The inscription reads 'The Lion is Loose in Leipzig' and the pre-printed stamp is a 3Rpf Hindenburg Medallion. There are at least three versions of this card. The first is P122-D-5 which has two varieties, the first with the word 'Postkarte' and the second with the word 'Postkarte' obliterated. The third version is without a pre-printed stamp. All three examples below feature the special cancellation that was used on 13th and 14th May 1939.
SPECIAL CANCEL: The special cancel used is inscribed 'LEIPZIG | In Leipzig | ist der Löwe los! | REICHSMESSESTADT'
