BORDERLAND DAYS

BACKGROUND: This postcard commemorates Grenzlandtage 1939, a festival held in Kandel from 8th until 10th Jul 1939. The event promotional brochure describes itself as "Das Groβfest der Grenzlandheimat ein Erlebnis auch für Dich!" - 'The big festival of the borderland homeland an experience for you too!'.

The inscription on the reverse reads "Grenzstadt kandel. Immer Besuchenswert. Wald - Blumen - Fachwerkbauten Reue Städt. Anlagen - Waldschwimmbad Bienwald-Kampfbahn. Das bekannte Sportfeld groβer Kämpfe Gute hotels und Gasthöfe. Auskunft Städt. Berkehrsamt." - 'Border town of kandel. Always worth a visit. Forest - flowers - half-timbered buildings Reue Städt. Facilities - Forest swimming pool Bienwald fighting track. The famous sports field of great fights Good hotels and inns. Information Municipality. Tourist office.'

The region is referred to as "Borderland", as Kandel is only 12 Km from the French border.
